Land managers in Scotland will shortly benefit from additional
funding that has been granted by Scottish Natural Heritage to
the Paths for All Partnership. Over a three-year period from 2006 to 2009, the grant will help
the Partnership to build on existing work to develop path networks
for walking, cycling, horse riding and all abilities through
consensus-led approaches between communities and land managers. Deputy Environment and Rural Development Minister, Rhona Brankin,
has welcomed the move which is contributing £1.08 million
to further support Scotland’s new access legislation. The announcement will benefit land managers by encouraging members
of the public to take responsible access on their land and by
allowing the public and the land managers themselves to work
together to safeguard the future of Scotland’s countryside. Sue Hilder, NFU Scotland’s Access Officer, said: “I am very pleased that the Paths for All Partnership
will be funded to continue its vital work in supporting access
professionals and stakeholder groups to deliver positive access
opportunities across Scotland. In recent years the work of the
Partnership has been extremely valuable in providing advice,
training and research that enables all those engaged in access
management, from access users to land managers, to work together
to implement the new access legislation.” 2005 NFU Scotland Farmland Biodiversity Award
