A dazzling show and spectacular prices were the order of the day at
the Red Ladies Limousin Derby at Carlisle on Friday 4th November. Great
quality and strength in depth was in evidence right through the catalogue
and breeders were rewarded with an excellent clearance rate sold into
both new and established herds.
Topping the sale at 18,000gns was Shire Valhalla from DB Edgar,
Ousby, Penrith. This August 2004 born maiden heifer by Grahams Samson
and out of Shire Renee had earlier been crowned Supreme Champion
at the pre-sale Show by judge Anne Hirst of the Rombalds Herd, Goose
Farm, Sutton On Forest, York. Buyers were D&M Cormack, Thirsk,
N Yorks.
Going under the hammer for 14,000gns was the served heifer Glangwden
Ulreka – a daughter of Paul and out of Wyreside Hazel - exhibited
by CL & FE Jerman, Trefeglwys, Caersws, Powys and bought by Smiths
of Bloxham for their pedigree Ironstone Herd in Oxfordshire.
Smiths of Bloxham also took home the day’s third highest price,
Heathmount Ursula, another served heifer brought forward by McKinney
Bros, Maghera, Co Londonderry. This Requin daughter and out of the
homebred dam Heathmount Ruby made 12,000gns.
D&M Cormack paid 7,000gns for Kaprico Unique consigned by Mr & Mrs
DK Wheeler, Kentisbeare, Devon. By Cockleshell Olympus and out of
Kaprico Liberty this heifer sold in-calf to Ronick Rascard heads
to the Cormacks’ Newstart pedigree Herd.
