RECORDED rams are proving their worth as commercial buyers
put them top of their lists says the manager of MLC's Signet Breeding
Service Sam Boon. Pedigree sales over the last few months have shown a marked and
increasing trend toward higher demand for recorded rams. The proportion
sold, commonly known as the "clearance rate", has been
much higher for recorded animals compared with unrecorded entries
with more than 25% more recorded rams finding new homes at some
sales. Sam said: "The Signet brand enables producers to invest with
confidence and unrecorded flocks are clearly missing out if they
don't have performance information to promote their stock. "This data shows recorded flocks are selling one extra ram,
for every five taken to market, and in a year when ram sales have
not been easy - this will have a huge impact on pedigree flock
profitability." The Increase in clearance rate for Signet
              recorded rams is shown below.
