| 31/03/06 The cushion of subsidies may have been taken away but livestock
producers are now market focused and the benefit is real returns
              for good efficient production.

                | | That's the view of Clare Wise, on-farm project manager for the
Red Meat Industry Forum (RMIF), speaking at the Women's Farming
Union (WFU) conference in Stratford-upon-Avon on March 31. Things are starting to look up and this is down to two factors
              - consumption is forecast to continue increasing and the lifting
of the beef export restrictions will strengthen the market for
the right products. Clare said: "Though there is a new world out there, farmers
must be efficient when it comes to production or they will lose
out. "This is where the RMIF can help. It is vital to know costs
of production in detail because then any opportunities to improve
the business can be spotted. "From there, the next step is to identify how to capitalise
on those opportunities and RMIF together with EBLEX and BPEX can
guide farmers to the solutions. "We offer practical help to farmers wanting to change, wanting
to improve their businesses, wanting to build a future for their
businesses and future generations. "We are starting from a strong economic position, now it's
up to us to build a farming industry for the future. Producers
must understand the supply chain and provide what it needs. Then
they can be sure of getting a good return." For more information on how the RMIF can help get in touch with
