If a picture is worth a thousand words, then the latest wall map
of the UK red meat and livestock industry speaks volumes! It has been produced by the Meat and Livestock Commission's (MLC)
Economics department and provides a comprehensive picture of the
structure of the industry. First produced in 1999 it has been completely redrawn to reflect
the many important changes since then. The new map shows and classifies by size and type all abattoirs,
livestock auction markets and wholesale markets known to be operating
throughout the UK. Significant processing companies engaged in
boning, cutting, retail packing, catering butchery or processing
meat and recipe products are also named. Other features include comprehensive coverage of the significant
UK-based international meat traders and wholesalers. By-products
processors and main livestock procurement groups are included.
Inset maps show the density of breeding animals. All this information is presented on a background that marks counties,
unitary authorities and the boundaries of rural development agency
regions. The full colour map is laminated for durability and is an essential
reference and planning aid for everyone who needs a clear view
of the UK's red meat industry structure. Major
