Total yields of 129% and 116% of the control for grazing and conservation
respectively, after adjustment for digestibility, place the new
perennial ryegrass AstonEnergy above any other variety on the latest
intermediate tetraploid Recommended List.
Available exclusively through British Seed Houses and launched
at Grassland UK, AstonEnergy is also unrivalled for quality, with
a grazing D-value of 71.0 and an aftermath D-value of 71.3, both
significantly higher than any other tetraploid listed varieties.
AstonEnergy also offers excellent resistance to the main diseases
affecting perennial ryegrass, with ratings of 8 on the 1-9 scale
for both crown rust and mildew.
"This new variety provides a powerful combination of high
yields and outstanding quality that will help UK farmers boost
production from grassland," commented Paul Billings of British
Seed Houses. "It has arrived at just the right time for farmers
seeking to increase profitability though increased use of home-grown
fodder. We see it as an ideal complementary variety in mixtures
to the similarly high producing Aber grass and clover varieties."
