British Friesian bloodlines to the fore at Carlisle

Record prices and crowds made the 18th Annual Evening Bull Sale one to remember at Borderway on Monday 11th September 2006. Nineteen bulls made over 2,000gns to a top of and centre record of 7,700gns for a dairy bull and an average of nearly 2,100gns made the sale an undoubted success.

Ian Brockett, Kilbarchan, Renfrewshire, renowned British Friesian breeder, broke the centre record for a dairy bull at 7,700gns. Winnoch Uniroyal, 50% British Friesian, by Ocean-View Zenith and out of the 10,556kgs 4.31% 3.41% Winnoch Carette 41 EX92, sold to JD Wharton, Town Head, Tebay, Penrith.

The second top price of 6,200gns was achieved by regular consignors Alistair Mann & Sons, Corrachie, Avoch, Rosshire. A&A Forshaw & Sons, Bolton Fold Farm, Preston took home this 100% British Friesian, Blackisle Royal Oak. The Blackisle breeders also claimed another top price of 3,300gns for their first bull, Blackisle Stratherick. He now enters the herd of EM Graham, Middle Farm, Wigton.

Judge Jim Reid from Bengall Hill, Locberbie made all the prize-winning decisions of the show. The Annandale herd had an unbelievable show scooping five of the six Holstein classes, Champion and Reserve Champion bulls. The Champion, Annandale Europa, was a Rigilo Juror Capri son from the famous Brynhyfryd Idella family. He sold for 2,800gns to J Baxter, Gibblaston, Bridge of Weir, Renfrewshire. The Reserve Champion, Annandale Captain America also sold for 2,800gns. Bred from 7 generations of Excellent or VG from the Miss America family, he sold to JR & LM Greaves, Hesket Demain, Carlisle. All in all, the event was quite a success for Annandale with nine bulls averaging 2,644gns.

British Friesian Champion, receiving the W&E Bell Trophy, was Winnoch Universal, consigned by Ian Brocket, Kilbarchan, Renfrewshire. This Winnoch Royal Duke son from the same family as the top price bull was sold to Mesrs Miller, Tarn Lodge, Heads Nook, Carlisle for 2,600gns. The Reserve British Friesian Champion was Rodbrook Sapphire, consigned by AR Pemberton & Partners, Kingsley, Frodsham, Cheshire. This Rodbrook Dynamo son sold for 2,000gns to A&A Torrance, Hamilton, Strathclyde.
