Daniel backed Rob, of Heath Farm, Halfway House, Shropshire when
he was selected as a finalist in the competition, run by the Farmers
Guardian. The competition was searching for ‘exceptional
young individuals who are determined to make a successful career
in dairy farming’.
Rob is 22 years old and is expanding his family’s Shropshire
dairy business, which currently totals 820 cows. He aims to increase
the herds to over 1,000 cows, as well as to raise yields and to
look at the possibility of investing in additional units.
The results of the competition were announced at ‘Dairy Event
2006’, which organised by the Royal Association of British
Dairy Farmers as the main event for the UK dairy farming industry.
Daniel was visiting the Dairy Event at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire
in his role as Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group..
“Through my Parliamentary work, I am well aware of the problems facing
the dairy industry,” said Daniel, “so I am very impressed by the
positive attitude taken towards the future by this young farmer in my constituency.
Having cast my vote in the competition for Rob, I am naturally delighted that
he has won the prestigious title of Dairy Farmer of the Future.”
