The Yorkshire Agricultural Society has invited the Royal Smithfield
Club to hold a National Festival of Meat Beef Ribs Competition
at this year's Countryside Live Food and Farming Fair at Harrogate
            on 28th and 29th October.

                | | The competition will involve the display of a primal cut of four
ribs with the judge looking for the very best eating quality. It
is hoped that a tasting panel will have the opportunity of sampling
both the supreme and reserve champions towards the end of the event.
The judge, Charles Hill of C.B. Hill Limited, is a well-known butcher
from Thornton le Dale, Pickering. He will be at the display cabinets
for some of the show to discuss the points that influenced his
decisions, and will also be happy to talk with the general public
about the right cuts of meat for the best eating quality.

In addition the Club, in partnership with the Yorkshire Agricultural
Society, are also mounting again this year the Saddle of Lamb Competition
for sheep producers across the region. The judge, Brian Glaves,
whose retail and catering butchery business is at Brompton by Sawdon,
Scarborough, is a great believer in only selecting meat that will
              eat really well.
