The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward
81 Prime cattle, 1 Young bulls, 17 OTM cattle, 2448 Spring lambs,
1198 hoggs and 4382 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale
at Longtown on Thursday 21st June, 2007.
Top price in the prime cattle was 140.5p paid by Messrs Nattrass,
Butcher, Carlisle for a Limousin heifer from A & W J Taylor & Son,
Dashwellgreen, others to 133.5p, 132.5p, 131.5p, 130.5p, 129.5p,
128.5p Dashwellgreen. Charolais heifers from Wickethorn 124.5p,
Blondes 131.5p Brydekirk Mains, Belgian Blue 131.5p Sceughdyke.
Limousin bullocks from Hallburn to 132.5p, others 131.5p The
Gill and Houghton House, 129.5p Dashwellgreen. Blondes 128.5p
Hallburn.
Belgian Blue bulls sold to 106.5p from Becton Hall.
In the OTM section Limousin cows to 95.5p Bennetsfield, Friesian
66.5p Smalmstown, Angus 60.5p High Crubasdale, Angus heifers
71.5p Archerbeck.
Spring lambs were a similar good show and buyers were keener
than expected, as a result all classes were easier to sell at
an overall average of 119p. Top was 138p for Texel x from W Bell & Co.,
Greenknowe, others 135p D’Mainholm, 134.8p Gallowberry.
Top price her head was £58.50 for Texel x from W L Musgrave & Sons,
Cardew Hall, others £57.40 Barnglies, Suffolk x £57

High Moat.
Light lambs were forward in larger numbers and were again easily
sold and more are required. Top was 144p for Continentals from
Maxton House with an overall average of 117p.
Top price per head was £44.40 for Texels from Copperthorns
and Blackrigg Gate. Suffolks £41.90 Nettling Flatt, £41
Acreknowe, Charollais £44.10 Hallburn, Blackfaces £34.20
Eastlandends, Greyfaces £31.80 Maxton House.
Another very good show of prime hoggs for the time of year were
dearer on the week. Top was £50.50 for Cheviots from Whitton,
others £45 Pilmuir, £44.80 West Craigs. Top price
per kilo was 102.9p for Shetland x from Inglewood Farms, others
101.9p Greenside Lodge, with many others between 90 and 100p
to record an average of 89p.
The cast ewes and rams were a similar entry and with the usual
buyers present all classes were again dear and good to sell.
Top was £70.50 for heavy Texel ewes from Newry, others £60.50
