The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 110 prime cattle, 24 OTM cattle, 4847 prime hoggs and 4,450 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 23rd April, 2009.

Well finished clean cattle maintained late high rates. Top price of 187.5p for a Charolais heifer from WH & M Sisson, Fenton and purchased by Messrs Nattrass, Carlisle. Limousin heifers to 185.5p Ladyhousesteads to Border Meats, Lockerbie, others to 177.5p Houghton House, 176.5p Hallburn; Belgian Blues 173.5p Hallburn.

Limousin bullocks to 185.5p, 178.5p, 177.5p Corby Castle Estate, 184.5p, 179.5p Hallburn, 177.5p Bloan Farm, 175.5p The Gill; Blondes 182.5p The Gill; Belgian Blues 183.5p Corby Castle Estate, 178.5p Bloan Farm.

Another large show of prime hoggs selling to the usual busy ringside of buyers to average 177p overall. The 3488 hoggs over 36 kg averaged 176.1p and the 1359 hoggs under 36kg averaged 177.5p. Top price per kilo was 224p for Beltex hoggs from Messrs Stoddart, Hillsde and top price per head was for Texel hoggs at £100 Willimoteswick & Blackrigg.
