Grassland UK, the country’s major national grassland event in 2009 with over 100 trade stands and 100 acres of working machinery demonstrations, takes place on farmland adjoining the Bath & West Showground at Shepton Mallet in Somerset on Thursday May 7.
In order to record the demonstration space available for the event, before allocating it to exhibitors, the Society has taken advantage of the latest satellite technology. John Deere recently lent the organisers a new XUV Gator 4WD utility vehicle fitted with the company’s StarFire GPS receiver system, to enable them to map the event site quickly and accurately, using Farmade software.
John Deere’s local crop systems specialist Brian D’Arcy and show organiser Rachael Hann took around an hour to complete the mapping of the fields belonging to neighbouring Bridge Farm and Bagborough Farm (pictured).
The show continues to grow, with new features in 2009 including muck demonstrations, technical advice on soil structure and the latest developments on tractor and trailer legislation, dealing with effluent and coping with nitrate vulnerable zones (NVZs).
Main sponsors of Grassland UK are Masstock Arable UK Ltd and Dow Agrosciences. Further details of the event, including news on ticket sales, can be found at www.bathandwest.com, or by calling 01749 822200.
