Bristol Aberdeen-Angus Sale Tops at 3000gns
2009-10-19

Last Wednesday’s southern autumn show and sale of 60 head of Aberdeen-Angus males and females, held at Bristol Sales Centre, saw trade peak at 3000gns for an April 2008 born heifer from Archie Smith-Maxwell, Upton-Upon-Severn, Worcestershire.

Beeston Fenemma H125 is a daughter of Wedderlie Netmark A281 out of the Shadwell Black Brigand Z092 daughter Beeston Fenemma E072, who goes back to The Moss Fenemma A181. With a huge milk figure of +19 and a terminal sire index of +28 and a self replacing index of +37, she sold to TR Wolfe, Stevenage, Herfordshire, having been AI’d to Rawburn Rommel.

Next at 2700gns was the reserve female champion from Cullompton, Devon based Edward and Claire Jones with their January 2009-born calf Rull Francis J091. Sired by Muirhall Top Deal E006 and out of Netherton Frances C236, she is the first heifer calf to be offered for sale from the Rull herd and is half sister to the National Show calf champion. She sold to P Hancox, Stockport, Cheshire.

Mr Smith-Maxwell was then back in the money again selling Beeston Fenemma E072, mother of the sale leader, who is by Shadwell Black Brigand. She was sold to B A Parker, Salisbury, Wiltshire, having been served to Beeston Pinkstone H120 for 2550gns.

The female and reserve overall champion Hinton Eurostar H004 from Graham and Alastair Kirk, Shaftesbury, Dorset, sold for 2300gns to MW Harris, Chepstow, Monmouthshire. By Idvies Euris B112 out of Lockerley Kind Princess C278, this June 2008-born heifer stood first at this year’s Bath and West Show.

Leading male trade was Beeston Pinkstone H120 himself from Mr Smith-Maxwell. This March 2008-born son of Glympton Proud Perth F240 out of Beeston Pinky D061 stood second in his class and sold for 2450gns to N J Turner, Abergavenny, Gwent.

Next at 2200gns was the overall show champion Oakchurch Dynamic H068 from Hereford-based Jeremy and Ala Price. Having been placed champion by judge and society president William McLaren, this one is by Rawburn Transformer out of the Dalrene Cruz 11F daughter Oakchurch Dalrene E020, Dynamic has a milk figure of +12, terminal index of +35 and a self replacing index of +47 and sold to DO Jones, Church Stretton, Shropshire.

At 2000gns Cornwall-based Mark Pilcher sold his reserve male champion Gear Kanto H193, a son of Lockerley Arnie C296 out of the Nightingale Pretender X35 daughter Gear Kind Princess E129. He sold to T Hodges, Singleborough, Buckinghamshire.
Averages: 18 cows in calf or with calf at foot £1145.81; 11 in calf or maiden heifers £1491.95; 4 bulls £2073.75; 1 steer £650 (McCartneys).
