The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 39 prime cattle, 21 over thirty month cattle, 7,818 prime lambs and 4,955 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 22nd October, 2009.
Clean cattle were a poor show for quality with a top price of 173.5p for a Limousin heifer from Messrs Ritson, Swaites. Belgian Blue bullocks from J.F. & I. Armstrong, Nether Onsett sold to 168.5p
Young bulls comprised of dairy sorts selling to 144.5p, 134.5p (x2) for Black & Whites from Harelawhole; Angus 135.5p Johnstone Bank.
A small show of 21 Over Thirty Month cattle were a sharper trade with Shorthorn cows selling to 110.5p Midtodhills; Limousin 97.5p Tinnis Hall; Black & White 97.5p Newby Farm; Galloway 83.5p Baron House. Montebeliarde bulls to 95.5p Peterscrook.

A monster show of 7,818 prime lambs were forward, with all types in particular export weights being sharper on the week to achieve an overall average of 139.7p Export weights were regularly 140-155p. The 5,987 lambs over 36 kilos averaged 141.3p and to a top price per kilo of 179p for Beltex’s from I.L.
