A son of one of the world’s leading show cows has made it to the UK and is expected to prove an irresistible attraction to dairy farmers with a desire to breed a top show cow.

The bull is Duckett-SA Shot Future, and as a son of one of the hottest properties in the Holstein show ring – recently crowned reserve grand champion at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto and supreme champion at the USA’s World Dairy Expo – he is likely to be in hot demand.

Adding his renowned sire, Picston Shottle, into the equation will further delight the UK’s leading breeders.
Already generating huge international interest, Future is in the process of being progeny tested in several countries world-wide, including the USA, Germany and the UK.

The young sire’s own genomic proof converts to a UK equivalent (official DairyCo formula) of 619kg milk, 21.6kg (-0.02 percent) fat, 13.4kg (-0.08 percent) protein with a reliability of 60 percent. And like his sire, he is predicted to transmit long lifespans (LS +0.1) and low cell counts (-2).

His genomic US type figures† are a remarkable 3.89 for overall type, with udders at 2.79, feet and legs at 2.48 and a GTPI (Genomic Total Performance Index) of 1805.

And while Future’s mother, Harvue Roy Frosty EX95, has a string of awards to her credit including All-American senior 3 yr old in 2007, she provides considerably more than simply show ring credentials. With a remarkable second lactation of 17,690kg at 4.5 percent fat in 365 days, she is already on her way to a more impressive third. Also proving herself as a top type transmitter, she has a March-born calf which has already been awarded a reserve junior championship in Wisconsin.

Frosty completes six generations of VG and EX cows and her dam in turn - Harvue Sam Heidi EX93 - underlines the great ability of this family, with lifetime production of 83,400kg at 4.55 percent fat and 3.2 percent protein.

“His full progeny proof will take several more years to come through, but with genomic information, we can have more confidence in his proof than with parent averages alone.

“And while the bull is young, his price remains low, and is likely to be considerably less than when he’s a widely proven sire.”
