Demand for Red Aberdeen-Angus Genetics at Bristol

A small offering of Aberdeen-Angus males and females at Bristol Sales Centre (Saturday 10th April) saw strong demand for red genetics and trade top at 3350gns for bulls and 1850gns for heifers.

Sale leader was the overall male champion Treguddick Red Evaluator H626 from Messrs David Thomas and Son, Launceston, Cornwall. Tapped out by the pre-sale judge Alex McLaren of the Aynho herd, Northants, this March 2008-born bull is by Windy Gowl Red Mickey E121 out of a homebred dam by Rogersbrigg Red Mountain. He sold to J Fielding, Bath, Somerset.

Next at 2800gns was the reserve champion Rosemead James H881 from Angus Stovold, Godalming, Surrey. Born September 2008, James is full brother to the herd’s homebred stock bull Rosemead Jeronny and has a milk figure of +8. By Ellin Erroneous C570, he is out of the Lockerley Mere boy Z303 daughter Rosemead Jessica C357 and sold to Noel Wheeler, Chipping Campden, Glos, for his Emmas-Lane herd.

Another from the Stovold family, this time Rosemead Jerrony H871, an August 2008-born half brother to the reserve champion and out of a Rosemead Billymust A122 daughter sold for 2000gns to Messrs Andrews, Barnstaple, Devon.

At the same money John Moores, Liverpool, sold The Moss Krispin H781, a March 2008-born son of Hoff Gold Label SC 900 out of Young Dale Kristina 44J with a terminal sire index of +35 and a self replacing index of +42. He knocked down to J Milton, South Molton, Devon.

Making the journey down from Suffolk, Andrew Brown sold Hawstead Lodge Wispy H217, an October 2008-born son of the herd’s senior stock bull Nightingale Panmure E281 out of Kingwood Wispy Z110. He went at 1950gns to W Price and Son, Hay on Wye, Herefordshire.

In the female section, it was another red Angus that topped trade, selling for 1850gns. March 2008-born Bramshaw Hill Red Elicia H545 from Mr and Mrs Smith, Salisbury, Wiltshire, is by Mosston Muir Prince Charming C071 and out of a homebred dam by Meadowvale Bertie Z010. She sold with a terminal index of +23 and a self replacing index of +32 to Messrs Ball, Monmouth.

Next was a run of heifers from Michael Green, of which the February 2008-born heifer Easton Greys Laurel H366 led his offering at 1350gns. By Wedderlie Derric C604 and out of an Aberan DMM Decision homebred daughter she sold to Miss S Roberts, Chepstow, Gwent, who bought three further heifers from Mr Green.

The female champion, Allabury Essie H003, from Paul Frain and Lisa Davey, Launceston, Cornwall, sold for 1200gns. Born April 2008, she is by Prince Chan of Church Farm and is out of a Galcantray Preditor V9 daughter. She sold to B Drury, Dartmouth, Devon.
