Entries for this year’s East of England Winter Stock Festival are still being accepted. The event, which takes place on the 12th and 13th November at the East of England Showground in Peterborough will host one of the finest displays of commercial show cattle and prime lambs from around the UK.
With the sad and unfortunate news this week that AgriLive Smithfield is to be cancelled, the East of England WSF welcomes any new exhibitors to the showground for the two day event, which also incorporates a show dinner on the 12th November.
New to the 2010 schedule are two sections of butcher’s lamb classes for both trimmed and untrimmed pairs of lambs, split by breed, with a total prize fund of more than £2000 up for grabs. Judging the sheep classes will be Andrew Bishop, Eldersfield, Gloucestershire. No stranger to championship success, Mr Bishop has had a phenomenal run of winter success last year at various primestock shows across the UK.
Beef classes will include purebred native and Continental cattle, crossbred native and Continental cattle and baby beef calves. A total prize fund of £3600 will be on offer in the cattle sections. Taking centre stage in the ring for the cattle classes will be Elizabeth Vance of Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire. Along with her husband Alistair, Mrs Vance has had a great show career taking tickets at Smithfield and Agri Expo.
As ever the event will also host a multi breed pedigree show and sale including official Society sales for the Beef Shorthorn and Aberdeen-Angus cattle Societies, with entries accepted from all major pedigree beef breeds. Paul Gentry of auctioneers Newark Livestock Market will again be on hand to take care of all sale proceedings after the judging.
This is the last year the event will be held in the livestock area on the showground, as plans are already underway for a move to the Showground’s Exec facilities in 2011. This will see the event develop on to a grander scale and larger platform with even more capacity for extra entries, trade stands and hospitality.
