Greening Proposal – Make Your Voice Heard

“Farmers in the North East have voiced concerns over the Greening proposal put forward in the recently published CAP Reforms and it looks like this concern is being heard” says Louis Fell of George F. White.

He has noted that The Commons Select Committee for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs are to consider the draft regulations. Anyone who would like to put forward their concerns and issues on the “Greening” proposals can do so and Interested parties are invited to address these points in writing to parliament by Wednesday 16 November 2011.

This inquiry will be focussing on the “Greening” proposal and the Committee has invited submissions on the following areas:

• whether the proposal to green direct payments will generate significant environmental benefits;
  
  
• the impact of additional greening requirements on food production and the competitiveness of the agricultural industry;
  
  
• consistency of the greening proposals with the CAP simplification agenda;
  
  
• how greening pillar 1 can be made coherent with agri-environment schemes;
  
  
• recommendations for improving the greening proposals.

On hearing of this inquiry, Louis Fell, Partner of George F White, said: “this shows that the government is listening to the concerns of UK farmers and if ever there was a time to lobby your MP or even contact the select committee direct, now is the time. It is important to get these reforms right for the future and the Greening element looks to be a backward step for UK farmers, especially when Defra Secretary Caroline Spelman has been encouraging farmers to become more productive”.

In addition, to concerns of “Greening” the also Committee welcomes interested parties’ views on other elements of the CAP proposals.
