Shropshires were
first imported in 1855 into the United States and in 1884 the American
Shropshire Registry was founded. Today the Shropshire breed has continued
to establish itself as a leader in the industry by becoming the first black
faced, slick sheared breed.
Today's active
Shropshire Sheep Breeders' Association and Flock Book Society has the distinction
of being the OLDEST SHEEP BREED SOCIETY IN THE WORLD being founded in 1882
and publishing the first Flock Book a year later.
