Limousins again ruled supreme at the annual autumn multi-breed show and sale of pedigree beef breeding cattle at Craven Cattle Marts’ Skipton Auction Mart. (Wed, Oct 11).

The breed repeated its success at the Spring pedigree beef fixture by once more taking championship and reserve championship honours this time around.

The supreme title winner was an 18-month-old Limousin bull, Kirkview Agentooseven, exhibited by William Salisbury, of W Salisbury & Son, Church View Farm, Treales, near Preston.

It sold for 1,280 guineas to Alan Wheelwright, of Halifax. Nouvelle Prospect, sire of the champion, is doing well in the Shropshire-based Wilodge herd.

The reserve champion, a 20-month-old Limousin bull, Aprilton Andy Pandy, from Eileen Wilson, of White Hills, Scorton, Richmond, made 1,100gns when purchased by G Pickersgill & Son, of Hawkworth, Guiseley. The sire is Ronick Member.

Show judge was Peter Goldsborough, of Northallerton, himself a past pedigree beef cattle championship winner at Skipton. “The victor was stylish, had a good carcass and will breed some nice calves,” he noted.

A production sale of pedigree Saler cattle, predominantly females, was also staged on behalf of Thomas Pye, of Rigel Pedigree, Levens Farm, Middleton-on-Leven, Yarm.

The 2002-born Rigel Jocasta, sired by Rigel Roderigo, with Rigel Jenna, a seven-month-old heifer calf by Sagitaire at foot, realised 1,200gns. Another 2002 female Rigel Rhea, by Rigel Duncan, with Rigel Rebekah, her six-months-old heifer calf by Rigel Othello, sold for 1,250gns.

The 2003-born Rigel Hermione, by Sagitaire, with Rigel Hippy, a five-months heifer calf by Rigel Milan, made 1,100gns. Two in-calf heifers, Rigel Vivien and Rigel Mercury, both sired by Rigel Othello, sold for 950gns and 940gns respectively.
