Champion Bull Leads Solid Aberdeen-Angus Trade in Dungannon
11/02/09

Dungannon Farmers Market saw a solid trade for Aberdeen-Angus bulls yesterday (10 February 2009) with a top call of 4000gns and an average of £2065.35 for 18 bulls sold out of 25 forward.

Sale leader at 4000gns was Coolermoney Rhodeo G185, a September 2007 bull from Adrian Parke, Strabane, Co Tyrone. Having stood champion on the day, this Ankonian Elixir 100 son with a milk figure of +11 out of Coolermoney Rhoda A266 sold to Edmund Smith, Ballygawley, Co Tyrone.

Second highest call of the day at 3600gns was Skerrybrooke Prince G442 from Robert Johnston, Fivemiletown, Co Tyrone. By the Dalrene Cruz son Netherton Eastern Cruz and out of Old Glenort Peggy D891, he sold with a third prize ticket to Mr Lucas, Reaskmore, Dungannon.

The highest price bull from Lisburn, Co Antrim-based James Porter’s offering was Old Glenort Kelly G162. By Haymount Wessuro B198 out of Kathleen of Fordafourie, this March 2007 born bull sold to Ian Smyth, Castle Wellan, Co Down, at 2700gns.

Mr Porter also sold two bulls by the 36,000gns sire The Moss Mr Eshton at 2200gns. The first was Old Glenort Portman G217 out of Glebe House Poppy A514, who sold to Andrew McMaster, Kircubbin, Co Down. The other, Old Glenort Estimator G383 out of Old Glenort Edwina E204 went to Mr S Rea, Downpatrick, Co Down.

At 2600gns Robert Sufferin, Maghera, Co Londonderry, sold Tamneymullan Jockey G486. This first prize bull is by Baronagh Euro A043 out of Baronagh Joanna D874 and sold to Strabane-based Gordon Ross.

At 2100gns Miss M Buchanan, Augher, Co Tyrone, sold Sess Enzo G403 to J and S Blackburn, Clougher, Co Tyrone. Enzo is by Jeremy Eric of Bridgefoot and out of Sess Eliza E681.

Co Londonderry-based Neville Forsythe sold Coltrim Proud Equinox G536 for 2000gns. Buyer of this Kiltariff Dynamic D711 son out of Penelope 2nd of Gilkey was Edward Johnston, Newtownbutler, Co Fermanagh.

Leading the female trade was the day’s champion Woodvale Eyrie H675 from Messrs A and C Armour, Dromore, Co Down. Homebred on both sides, this March 2008 born heifer is by Woodvale Mr Awesome E207 and sold for 1400gns to Bob Campbell, Drumcaw, Downpatrick.

From the same vendor and again by Mr Awesome, Woodvale Emma H771 sold for 950gns to Patrick Gilroy, Derrygonnelly, Co Fermanagh.


Averages: 18 bulls £2063.35; 2 heifers £1233.75 (Dungannon Farmers Market).
