Charolais bulls peaked at 4,800gns and sold to average £2,823 on Saturday 24 April at Newark Livestock Market’s official multi-breed show and sale.

Wesley Deacon at 4,800gns

A couple of same way bred entries from Wesley Estates, Markfield, Leicester led the trade in the male section. Sale topper at 4,800gns was first prize winner, Wesley Deacon, a two year old Balthayock Aesop son and out of a homebred dam going back to Maerdy Rock. He was knocked down sold to G White and Son, Alford, Lincolnshire.

Next at 3,500gns was the Charolais champion, Wesley Eddy, a 15 month old Aesop son, out of a Rock bred dam and who was within the breed’s top 5% with a Terminal Index (TI) +35. The buyers were AEJ and FJ Claridge, Middle Claydon, Buckinghamshire.

A bid of 3,000gns secured the reserve champion, Brampton Dubai for H Williams and Sons, Machynlleth, Powys. Bred and exhibited by Billy Turner, Skelton-on-Ure, Ripon, this 17 month old was a Billingley Talisman son and out of a cow from homebred lines.

Champion, Wesley Eddy at 3,500gns

A consignment of females from Wesley Estates was led at 3,000gns twice by a couple of cows by the 20,000gns Perth champion, Thrunton Trojan, and each accompanied by their calves by Balthayock Aesop. First in the ring was Wesley Ability sold with her seven month old heifer, Wesley Excuse. The pair was secured by PK Farms, Friskney, Boston, Lincolnshire.

Minutes later, Wesley Augusta and her seven month heifer, Wesley External made 3,000gns to K Emerson, Thringstone, Leicestershire.

The female section of Charolais breeders’ consignments was led at 1,700gns by first class prize winner, Moathall Desiree, a 16 month old heifer by Brampton Temperature and out of a Weybred sired homebred dam. Bred and exhibited by Julie Wicks, Mellis, Eye, she sold to IM and CLC White, Oakham, Rutland.

Averages: nine bulls £2,823.30; Wesley: 10 females £2,551.50
