For the third consecutive year, the McKenzies, of Blue Scar Farm, Arncliffe, were awarded the Robert Morphet Memorial Trophy for the best pen of 50 Suffolk-cross lambs, knocked down for £59.20 a head to a Cumbrian buyer, John Errington, of Penrith.
In fact, their annual consignment of lambs, this year numbering 222, made a clean sweep of the prizes, the runners-up joining Gordon Henley, Boroughbridge, at £57each, the third-placed pen selling for £55 per head to JT Marrs, Carlisle.
Suffolks averaged £53.98 (£49.43 in 2009), with top price honours at £62.50 per head falling to a pen of 50 from Stuart and Stephen Lund, of Litton, which were also purchased John Errington.
The average selling price of the 5,715 store lambs forward was £52.17, a big improvement on the 2009 average.
Other breed top prices and averages, with corresponding averages for 2009 in brackets where applicable, were: Texel-x to £65.50, av 51.94 (2009 - £47.39), Mules to £55, av £48.79 (£42.13), Charollais to £50, av £49.48 (£47.04), Gritstone to £45, Beltex to £63, av £56.95.
