 | The JCB Dancing Diggers are to feature at the 2006 Great Yorkshire
Show, organisers have announced. The popular demonstration - which
is reminiscent of ballet for heavy plant machinery - will be one of
the main attractions at the annual farm and country show case. Dates are Tuesday 11 - Thursday 13 July and the event takes
place at the Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate. This will
be the 148th show. It is one of the premier events on the country
calendar, attracting more than 130,000 visitors over the three
days. For the first time The Band of The Brigade of Gurkhas
will feature, and the fast and furious activity of scurry driving
makes a welcome return. Around the showground, some 8,000 animals will be competing
for the championship awards, there will be top class show jumping,
a food exhibition and cookery theatre highlighting the delights
of the region's food and drink, fashion shows and hundreds
of stands selling everything from designer clothing to tractors
to cuddly toys. The show is organised by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society
and this year sees a new man at the helm. Bill Cowling has
taken on the role of Honorary Show Director after being the
show's Chief Cattle Steward for the past 11 years. Bill farms
at Rudding House, Pannal near Harrogate. For more information contact the Yorkshire Agricultural Society
