 A showjumping gelding secured the top price of 5,000gns at the
              season’s first horse and pony sale at Borderway Mart, Carlisle
              on Saturday. This new event attracted a hugh attendance of buyers
              and enthusiasts who came to see the catalogued entry of 150 horses
            and ponies along with an array of tack coming under the hammer.

                |  |  A showjumping gelding secured the top price of 5,000gns at the
              season’s first horse and pony sale at Borderway Mart, Carlisle
              on Saturday. This new event attracted a hugh attendance of buyers
              and enthusiasts who came to see the catalogued entry of 150 horses
            and ponies along with an array of tack coming under the hammer. The 5,000gn sale topper, Jester, a homebred bay 16/17hh gelding
              was shown by Glasgow breeder Robert Pitcairn. This well turnout
              bay, a son of the show jumper Liberty, caught the eye of Manchester
              enthusiasts David and Gail Wootton. The event included the first spring show and sale for the Shetland
              Pony Stud-Book Society. The pre-sale judging was carried out by
              Jimmy Wilson of Perth who awarded the championship rosette to local
              breeder Mrs Foster of Cumwhinton. Yarpha Wren, a black 38” mare
              sired by Ardo Renown, was sold for 800gns to the Old Vicarage M & M
            Stud of Hexham. Also selling for 800gns was a Palomino mare consigned by Mel Howarth
              of Macclesfield, Cheshire. Halstock Snow Enya, a rising six year
              old daughter of Tyros Snowstorm, was purchased by K Thomson of
              Dumfries. Topping the Shetland section at 1,300gns was a black and white
              Skewbald stallion offered by Mrs Eileen Kirkpatrick of Wamphray
              Moffat. Bantac Apache, a son of South Sand Imperial, was knocked
            down to H Norman of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Featuring in the leading price tickets in the general horse sale
              was a black filly Jess shown by Mr M Sowerby of Appleby. Selling
              for 1,700gns, she was bought by WT Evans of Lochans, Stranraer. A 3 year old chestnut riding horse was shown by R Mowbray of Houghton,
              Carlisle and sold for 1,500gns to north east enthusiast P Shepherd
              of Sunderland. The next event scheduled is a carriage and driving sale to take
              place on Saturday 31st March.
