The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward
96 prime cattle, 12 young bulls, 29 OTM cattle, 2,524 prime lambs
and 4,553 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown
on Thursday 12th July, 2007.
All classes of prime cattle were dearer on the week. Heifers
under 24 months again met premium rates selling to 145.5p, 143.5p,
142.5p, 131.5p and 129.5p for Limousins from J. & N. Blaylock & Son,
Hallburn, others to 128.5p Brydekirk Mains; 126.5p Wicket Thorn
and Pennersaughs. Limousin bullocks from W.E. Lockhart & Co.,
Faulding Cleugh sold to 143.5p, 141.5p and 131.5p, others 130.5p
Stormont, 129.5p (x2), 125.5p (x2) Dashwellgreen; Belgian Blue
132.5p R. & E.M. Smithson, Bloan Farm.
Young bulls were also dearer with Herefords selling to 105.5p
and 101.5p from M.P. Tattersall, Enzieholm.
The 29 OTM cattle met late rates with Limousin bullocks to 103.5p
from Brownchesters. Charolais heifers to 95.5p and 93.5p Brownchesters;
Limousin 92.5p Pennersaughs. Limousin cows to 91.5p Morley Hill,
83.5p Nirvana; Simmental 69.5p Brisco Hill; Friesian 64.5p Prior
Rigg; Angus 64.5p Bonshawside.
A similar entry of prime lambs were a better quality show, trade
very similar to last week with numbers short of buyers requirements
to average 125p overall to a top of 145.4p for Texels from North
Greenhill. Top price per head of £62 for a Beltex from
Messrs Hope, Albierigg, Canonbie and for Suffolks from Messrs
Lumley, Newbiggen Farm, Blanchland, Consett, other Suffolks to £60.20
Hillview, £60 Kilnford Croft; Texel £58.40 Brackenthwaite, £58.20
Cardew Hall, £58 Barnglies; Charollais £55.20 Cardew

Light lambs met a stronger demand with averages up 10p on the
week to average 126p overall and to a top of 136.5p per kilo
and £47.80 per head for Texels from North Boig Farm, other

A similar show of cast ewes and rams saw heavy ewes scarcer
and all classes easily maintained last weeks high rates to average £37.48
overall. Top of £73.50 for heavy Suffolk ewes from Kilnford
