The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 111 prime cattle, 5 young bulls, 17 OTM cattle, 4,651 prime lambs and 4,638 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 26th July, 2007.

The prime cattle were dearer on the week. Limousin heifers from Hallburn to 145.5p, 144.5p & 134.5p. Charolais heifers 139.5p Hallburn, 135.5p Stormont. Blondes 137.5p Hallburn. Limousin bullocks 139.5p, 136.5p, 135.5p, 131.5p Dashwellgreen, 132.5p Houghton House & Hallburn.

Young bulls to 109.5p for Herefords from Enzieholm, 109.5p For Simmental from Sceughdyke.

Over Thirty Month Belgian Blue heifers 97.5p Branteth, Charolais heifers 87.5p Branteth. Cows to 95.5p for Belgian Blue from Becton Hall, Limousin 82.5p Becton Hall, Friesian 63.5p Smalmstown, Charolais 84.5p Fawcettlees.

Prime lambs were a larger entry and with buyers very keen the overall average was up 11p on the week to average 120.3p. Numbers sold were short of buyers requirements.

Top was 136.4p for Beltex x from G Brough, Old Rectory. Top price per head was £60.20 for Texel x from E & A Graham, Upper Mains, £58.80 Barnglies, £58.70 West Dykes, Suffolks £59.20 Upper Mains, £58.50 Kilnfordcroft, Bleu de Maines £57.80 Clantibules, Charollais £55.20 Kerr, Halfbreds £49.80 Dodgsonstown, Greyfaces £52.20 Albierigg, £48.90 Old Police House, Cheviot Mules £49.20 Parkhill, Beltex £57.20 Mid Farm, Blackface £44 Shankfieldhead, Hill Cheviot £45.10 Grains Cottage.

Light lambs were also forward in larger numbers and met a similar trade on the week to average 116.8p to a top of 131.4p for Texels from Nettling Flatt who aols Blackfaces at 116.7p and Greyfaces at 116p. Suffolks 123.9p Falla, Beltex 123.6p Park Nook, Herdwick 117.3p Mossband House who also sold Zwartbles at 117.3p. Top price per head was £43.80 for Texels from Old Carhullock, others £42.70 Newington & Blacksmiths Cottage, Suffolk x £42.90 Lustruther, Beltex £40.80 Park Nook, Cheviots £40.90 Park Nook, Greyfaces £39.20 Lowes, £38.10 Cowcorse, Blackfaces £36.60 Park Nook, £35.80 Clonrae, Herdwicks £35.20 Mossband House, Zwartbles £35.20 Mossband House.

Another large show of cast ewes and rams were marginally cheaper on the week to average £37.59 with a large ring of buyers operating.

Top was £68.50 for heavy Texel ewes from Dinwoodie Green, others £66.50 Newry.
