Skipton Auction Mart has warmly welcomed Defra’s decision to this week extend the Bluetongue protection zone into all parts of North Yorkshire – including Craven – and neighbouring Lancashire.
Jeremy Eaton, general manager at the mart, said: “It allows us to resume normal trading and fully cater for the needs of our customers – both sellers and purchasers – locally and much further afield.
“After many months of restricted and interrupted activity, this further extension of the BT protection zone puts us back on a level playing field across our key trading heartlands in Craven, North and West Yorkshire, and Lancashire.
“This will now allow farmers in these areas to vaccinate stock and come to Skipton and trade in the normal way. Any customers requiring advice on the marketing of breeding and store stock should contact the mart office on 01756 792375.”
