2011-02-07

Cogent Breeding Ltd has strengthened its Jersey team with the appointment of Derrick Frigot as its new Jersey Specialist.

As the founder of JISEX International, a leading global company specialising in Jersey genetics, Derrick joins Cogent as part of an exciting collaboration with the company, JISEX and UK Jerseys that will bring a broad range of benefits and opportunities to Jersey breeders.

Derrick’s new position will see him streamlining genetic selection and will focus on selecting bulls suited to UK Jersey breeders, as well as increasing opportunities for farmers to use their top cows as bull mothers and exploring export opportunities. Also, wanting to satisfy his valued JISEX customers, Derrick will continue to offer his trusted knowledge and breeding advice throughout the British Isles.

A resident of Jersey Island, Derrick has worked with Jersey cattle all through his career and has been exporting semen and cattle internationally since the 1970’s. With a meticulous eye for cattle, Derrick is a respected authority on the Jersey breed, and in 1976 he became the Honorary Secretary-Treasurer of the World Jersey Cattle Bureau, a role he held for 29 years. He was elected as Vice President for Europe in 2004 and this month takes the position as President.

Hugh Pocock, Cogent’s UK Sales and Genetics Manager said: “The wealth of knowledge and experience that Derrick possesses is second to none – we are delighted to have him on board. Derrick’s unparalleled understanding of the Jersey breed will be vital in developing opportunities for the Jersey breed and he will be an asset to the collaboration and our customers.”

Derrick added: “This initiative will provide the resources and skills to enable us to lift the profile of the UK Jersey breed. I look forward to working together to deliver the next generation of bloodlines from the widest pool possible, including Denmark, North America and more importantly the UK.”
